Colours of Late October Collage

This is a collage of photos taken yesterday morning, which I used to make a birthday card for a friend, whose 50th birthday party I went to the same evening.

Mosaic Monday: Oh What A Tangled Web We Weave

Oh what a tangled web we weave
When first we practice to deceive.

Nature's Sunday Sermon

After the dreary slush the other day... this morning, Nature offered the most spectacular Art Show I think I have ever seen! It was extraordinary. After the morning mist lifted, the air was crystal clear. The sharp morning light revealed the railing on the bridge over the river to be all covered with glistening spiderwebs, one after another. In the background, still the burning colours of autumn. On the other side of the river, the spider webs just went on and on and on, along a rusty iron fence outside an old factory buildning...

Further along my walk, I got another spectacular show, with music. Hundreds of birds for some reason gathered high up in the treetops. Much too high to enable me to see properly what kind of birds; and my camera was also not able to zoom them in. I had to just stand and watch, and listen, and wonder. The birds were fluttering about all the time, high above me, their movements reminding of butterflies in the summer, and it was sometimes hard to distinguish them from the falling leaves. I've never seen anything quite like that either. It gave the impression of a praise concert - maybe a last gathering before moving south for the winter?

Let the heavens rejoice, let the earth be glad;
let the sea resound, and all that is in it;
let the fields be jubilant, and everything in them.
Then all the trees of the forest will sing for joy;
they will sing before the Lord, for he comes,
he comes to judge the earth.
He will judge the world in righteousness
and the peoples in his truth.
Psalm 96:11-13

The First Slush

(taken through the window)

Today when I woke up and looked out of my window - it was there. The first pre-winter-snowslush. It's about as gloomy as it gets. In my opinion, snow should not fall until the trees are bare and every flower has gone properly to sleep already. Then it may serve to cover things up until spring. This, however... Ah well. Nothing much one can do about it, is there?! If I had not started this blog, I would not have gone out in it. Now it struck me that perhaps I ought to show you... The more unpleasant side of living in Sweden...

The autumn colours last week were so strong it almost hurt the eye to look at them.

Even on a grey and cloudy day, the trees seem luminous now, like if they had drawn the light of the sun into themselves.

Yew Berries

In most of the yew hedges I have seen, there have only been a few berries, well hidden...
The other day, suddenly, I found abundance of them in one place!

Early Morning Light, October

These two pictures were taken from the same spot (a bridge), within one minute of each other, in the morning of October 2. The one above at 8:37, looking south. The one below at 8:38, looking north. Both pictures have been slightly clarified and sharpened in PSP9, but the difference in colour scheme depends on the light.
