Snowstorm pictures through the window - 27 January, 2010
"I played a heap of snow in a school play. I was under a sheet, and crawled out when spring came. I often say I'll never reach the same artistic level again."

Mosaic Monday: Dahlias
Visit Little Red House to see more mosaics, and to wish the Mosaic Monday host Mary
Happy Birthday!
I'm a bit tired of winter just now, so looking back through last year's pictures every now and then for some colour!

Town Square
In the summer, people like to sit and chat on these sculptured chairs.
Not quite as much sitting and chatting outdoors in the winter...

Tulips
To take a pause from all the snow, here is a bouquet of tulips. The photo was edited first in Picasa and then additional effects added in Photoshop Elements.

Blue, White and Red
Among apartment buildings built ~ 60 years ago, a few older houses still stand as a reminder of the days when this part of town was countryside.

Calendar 2010: December
I've started 2010 off by showing 12 photos from 2009 that I chose for a monthly wall calendar.
This is the last one; and if it seems familiar - yes, just like the "January" picture, this one too was on show here at the beginning of December; just after I had put the first decorations up for the season... Now it will be time to take them down soon. (I usually keep the window lights until mid or end of January, depending a bit on the weather outside.)

Calendar 2010: January
In January 2009, I took my first hesitating steps into the Blogworld by starting my first blog The Island of the Voices. I really had no concept at all back then of how much time I would end up spending in this world during the rest of the year - how many places I would get to see without actually visting them, or how many new friends I would be making all over the globe!
I also did not foresee how my own interest in photography would suddenly explode as a consequence. From July on, when I also joined the shared photo blog Soaring Through the World in Pictures, I found myself taking as many photos in one month as previously in one year - something of that proportion... This, in turn, led on to also starting my DawnTreader's Picture Book in September.
For Christmas, I had a wall calendar for 2010 made out of 12 chosen photos from the past year, to give to some family members and friends. I thought I'd start 2010 off on this blog by publishing the same 12 pictures here. It will be looking back at last year; and looking forward to the seasons of the coming year as well.
If you're thinking you've seen the January picture before, quite recently - that's right! It is a sunrise picture from early December, published on this blog 5 December. I chose it for January because it seemed fitting to start the calendar for the new year with a wintry picture taken at dawn...
The title of my very first blogpost at The Island of the Voices was
"The Dawn of a New Year and a New Blog"

DawnTreader's Picture Book
For this blog, I have chosen a template that allows me to show pictures as big as possible . Some of the things you usually find in the sidebar, you will find here at the bottom of the page instead - Blog Archive, Followers etc.
My camera is a Nikon Coolpix 4600.
For basic editing of most photos and collages I use Picasa 3.
Sometimes I also experiment with some more "artistic" effects in Photoshop Elements or Paint Shop Pro.
