Wrapped in Light

Wrapping bare tree trunks and branches with lights has become more and more common in later years, as an alternative or addition to the traditional evergreen Christmas trees.

1st Advent Sunday

After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem and asked, "Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star in the east and have come to worship him." Gospel of Matthew 2:1-2

Mosaic Monday: Coffee or Tea?

Interiors from a favourite shop of mine!
This is just the right time of year to just cuddle up indoors with a hot mug of whatever-you-like-best... (My own choice is tea!)

Not much colour left in the world in November in our climate, but there is still the occasional find...

At Home in the River

The Mallard / Anas platyrhynchos / Gräsand is a common sight all year round, as long as there is open water to be found. This was not the sharpest of photos but I liked the way the light from the inside the buildings on the other side of the river was reflected in the water on this otherwise grey day. Putting it through a number of editing steps in PSP helped enhance the effect.

A Guest in the River

One day there was this unusal sight in the river. It was definitely not one of the usual mallards, so I had to go home and have a look in my bird book. Arrived at the conclusion that it must be a  Bucephala clangula / Common Goldeneye / knipa. According to my book and Swedish Wikipedia both, it is more common in the north of Sweden, but not so often seen here in the southern parts.

Blog of the Week at 365 to 42

Yesterday I got a message from Brett @ 365 to 42 that he had chosen this blog as his Blog of the Week.

I consider this a great honour, and I'm adding the award to my awards list (which you'll find at the bottom of the page since I have no sidebar in this layout). I also wrote a post about it at my Island of the Voices blog, which is my main blog where I ramble on about everything and nothing, using pictures for illustration or inspiration... While here in the Picture Book, I often prefer to let the pictures speak for themselves (just sometimes adding a short comment).

Thank you Brett for the write-up, and I'll be round to take a closer look at your blogs too in days to come.

Tuesday Blue Reflections

I had a post last Tuesday that I called Tuesday Blues. I just picked that title out of nowhere, from the day of the week, and the colour of the flower in the picture. Then I thought maybe I could make a theme of it? But... then I googled it, and found it not to be a very good title to repeat... See the Urban Dictionary definition of the expression. Oh-oh, language is a tricky business sometimes...!

I'll skip the 's' in the Blue... and just try to find some things blue to post on Tuesdays, that's all...

This is a very dull and grey time of the year we're in right now - and for a number of months forward. Not a whole lot of colours to be found outdoors in Nature now, compared to summer and early autumn! Because of this, I might also resort to a trip or two down Memory Lane sometimes to pick up some "leftovers" from the more colourful seasons, to brighten up the greyness of the present... We'll see!

Today's picture, however, is from this month.
The lights are Within, the reflections are Without!

DawnTreader's Picture Book

For this blog, I have chosen a template that allows me to show pictures as big as possible . Some of the things you usually find in the sidebar, you will find here at the bottom of the page instead - Blog Archive, Followers etc.

My camera is a Nikon Coolpix 4600.
For basic editing of most photos and collages I use Picasa 3.
Sometimes I also experiment with some more "artistic" effects in Photoshop Elements or Paint Shop Pro.
