DawnTreader's Picture Book
For this blog, I have chosen a template that allows me to show pictures as big as possible . Some of the things you usually find in the sidebar, you will find here at the bottom of the page instead - Blog Archive, Followers etc.
My camera is a Nikon Coolpix 4600.
For basic editing of most photos and collages I use Picasa 3.
Sometimes I also experiment with some more "artistic" effects in Photoshop Elements or Paint Shop Pro.

I like your red paint, I notice they have green and black here. It must be some sort of wood preserver.
Do you know what it is?
I've been to Sweden a few times and have noticed it. Where you are it seems everything is painted red.
Yes Adrian, you're right. The red paint is typical for Sweden, and it does have a wood preserving effect.
"Falu red or Falun red (in Swedish Falu rödfärg) is the name of a Swedish, deep red paint well known for its use on wooden cottages and barns. The paint originated from the copper mine at Falun in Dalarna, Sweden. The traditional colour remains popular today due to its effectiveness in preserving wood.
The earliest evidence of its use dates from the 16th century."

What an unusual and cheerful picture of the hives in front of the bare birch branches. The hives are almost lined up just like the trees, making a kind of cool linear effect. I think this picture is more effective than it would be with leaves on the branches.
