Old Red Cottages (1)

Not far from where my dad lives there are a couple of old cottages which are owned and taken care of by a local history society. I took a walk there on Saturday afternoon (Easter Eve). Not much visible life in nature or gardens yet after the long winter, but as you can see we at least had a clear blue sky, and we’re rid of most of the snow (there are a few patches left here and there in shadowy places). There will be a couple of more picture posts from this place coming up this week.

These are grand. What is the flap on the chimney for?

I really don't know, I can only guess it has to do with the balance between letting smoke out and keeping the warmth inside.

I'm also wondering what that big metal contraption is on the chimney. But this house; how extremly unusual and interesting! It looks more like some kind of small workplace or office building than a home, but you've shown us the lace curtains inside. I'm glad you'll be doing at least one more post on it. I'll be very interested to read more about it, When was it built, how many have lived there? Will they let you inside to take pictures?

Dawn Treader...I had the same question...I have never seen that type of apparatus before. Nice pictures and it is good to see no snow in your neck of the woods!

Sorry, my friends. I don't have any facts and the cottages are only open on special occasions. And this wasn't one of them!

I enjoyed these photos. The flap contraption is fascinating. The colours are so sympathetic to the rural environment: my kind of colours.

For this blog, I have chosen a template that allows me to show pictures as big as possible . Some of the things you usually find in the sidebar, you will find here at the bottom of the page instead - Blog Archive, Followers etc.

My camera is a Nikon Coolpix 4600.
For basic editing of most photos and collages I use Picasa 3.
Sometimes I also experiment with some more "artistic" effects in Photoshop Elements or Paint Shop Pro.
