Anna Lindh was a Swedish Social Democratic politician who served as Swedish Minister for Foreign Affairs from 1998 until she was murdered in 2003. She died on the early morning of September 11, following a knife attack in Stockholm on the afternoon of September 10.
A small park in our town (across the river from the main park) has recently been renamed in her honour, in connection with acquiring the sculpture Non-Violence by Carl Fredrik Reuterswärd.
A similar sculpture (a revolver tied in a knot) by the same artist is placed outside the United Nations Headquarters in New York City.

Oh, man!!!! I love this! How creative. Your posts just keep getting better and better. I never thought of Sweden as an art capitol, but perhaps you are?? I'm thinking of two famous paintings, one is a woodblock, I think. "The Scream" And Andrew Wyeth's "Christina's World". Isn't at least one of those by a Swedish artist?
Dawn Treader this is really an interesting sculpture. I didn't realize that there is also one outside of the UN as well. have seen some really neat sculptures thanks to you in the last year or so!
Dan

Ginny, "The Scream" is by Norwegian artist Edvard Munch. Not Swedish, but close... ;)
Andrew Wyeth is American. Looking up that painting Christina's World... Now it's driving me crazy because I saw that picture somewhere quite recently but I can't for the life of me remember the context!!!
Thank you, very informative and the photographs are excellent.
