Mosaic Monday: Mystery Picture Explained

2010 07 28 dahlias gold frame-4

Here it is again, the mystery picture from Saturday’s post.
Did I hear someone say “What is that painting doing in Mosaic Monday?”
Nah… You’re probably all too smart… You’ve figured it out already…
It IS a photo collage – made in Picasa (but the frame added in Paintshop Pro).

It was made from the same 9 pictures of dahlias as the collages below,
but with all the flowers mixed together into one.

did you make them transparent and let them show through? i might have to try this in photoshop just for fun. love the mosaics.

I didn't do anything to make the pictures transparent. I use Picasa for collages and there is one alternative that just mixes all your chosen pictures together. I guess one reason this one came out good in spite of so many layers (nine) is that before I made the collages I had cropped all the pictures so that they were square and just showed one flowerhead, all approximately the same size and the same position in the picture.

So YOU did this? It is stupendous, you are very talented and have an eye for beauty! The picture is so lovely, you would have to know just which flowers to use to get it to come out that way. If I would have tried, my creation would not have looked as good,I guess you have to visualize it in your head first. But then again, you wouldn't know how it would turn out until it is done. And all the collages are just eye popping.

Ginny, Ginny... LOL... You think much too highly of me! I had no idea what I was doing with that "all in one" picture. I was just playing around with these nine photos trying out different collage alternatives. I pressed a button, and there it was, the lovely "painting"... The analysis came after, not before...

Dawn Treader...I never would have guessed! What a great idea...I am going to try it as well. Your comment below is so spot on...often a great work of art can be a technique that is just created through experimentation and you did it on this one....beautiful.

That is so cool! It looks like a watercolor at first glance, which just makes the "real" technique that much more interesting. Well done!

For this blog, I have chosen a template that allows me to show pictures as big as possible . Some of the things you usually find in the sidebar, you will find here at the bottom of the page instead - Blog Archive, Followers etc.

My camera is a Nikon Coolpix 4600.
For basic editing of most photos and collages I use Picasa 3.
Sometimes I also experiment with some more "artistic" effects in Photoshop Elements or Paint Shop Pro.
